How to Make a Basic Marinara
By Renee Shelton

Marinara Sauce
A marinara sauce is a basic tomato sauce that can be used with all your fresh and baked pasta dishes. If you have a bounty of fresh tomatoes, use those instead of canned tomatoes.

Ingredients:

4 large garlic cloves, chopped
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 small onion, optional
28 oz. can tomatoes
2 tablespoons fresh basil leaves, chopped
2 tablespoons parsley, chopped

Procedure:

Place garlic cloves in a saucepan with olive oil over medium heat. Add onions if using. Cook for about 2 minutes until softened and fragrant. Add in tomatoes and herbs. Bring to a soft boil, then reduce heat to simmer, cover and let cook for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Use as needed.
